Beginning Quilting

Class Outline:
1. Quilting tools and how to read a pattern
2. Fabric and thread selection
3. Cutting and pressing
4. Accurate seam allowance; strip piecing
5. Quilt Layers and assembly
6. Straight-line quilting
7. Binding
In this two class session you will make and complete a small practice nine-patch table topper.
| Materials Included: | Bring your own, or all supplies, excluding sewing machine and walking foot, can be purchased the day of the class using a 15% class discount. |
| Requirements: | Quilt Basics Book by Antler Quilt Design. 1 & 1/4 yard dark fabric, see page 8 of book). 1 yard of light fabric. Rotary Cutter- 45 or 60mm blade. Working sewing machine with two filled bobbins. Light, neutral color thread. Small sharp scissor for trimming threads, pins, seam ripper, tape measure. Machine needles. Ruler (8.5"x12" is most versatile/usable for this class) Best Press (or other spray starch) Optional: Iron & Wool pressing mat if you want your own work space Cutting mat if you want your own workspace Stiletto Pincushion Needed for Class two: Walking foot for your machine. Hand sewing needle if you plan to hand sew your binding. Optional: Marking pen or chalk Instructor will supply a small piece of batting and painters tape used in the second class. |
